The daily practice of surgical pathology includes a sizeable amount of urologic pathology. For the purpose of selecting appropriate treatment options and outcomes, genitourinary cancers must be diagnosed, graded, and staged accurately. In order to accurately detect lesions and produce pathology reports with all the elements required for proper patient therapy, practicing pathologists must stay current on the rapidly changing field of urologic tumor pathology. Recent consensus conferences, updates and practice guidelines on prostate, bladder, testis, penile, and kidney pathology, the recently released 8th edition of the AJCC staging manual, and the impending publication of the 2022 WHO Blue Book on Urinary and Male Genital Tumors (1–8) have all led to new developments in uropathology.
